This is a project whose purpose is to organize efforts to analyze data from the CDC’s Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System (BRFSS). The Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System is the largest, continuously operating, telephone survey in the world. It began in 1984 and is now operated in all states, the District of Columbia, and 4 territories of the US. The federal government, individual state and territorial governments, and public health professionals use it to estimate prevalence, monitor trends and identify risks associated with the leading cause of death and disability. The SRU’s role has been to lead and coordinate activity of a network of researchers with interest in data from the BRFSS.
